Hi! Some weird grey/blue lines show up in my objects. And they appear to grow in numbers when I zoom. The lines even end up in the export when I export to png.
Only certain objects appear to be affected.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Only a part of your file shows up - the far right of it.
Have you tried to use View - Outline mode to see if you have some 'hidden' objects? Try to upload your svg-file directly in this topic

Re: Weird blue/gray lines show up in my objects
I haven't gotten too deep yet, but it seems the problem is related to the drop shadow filter.
I'd remove the filters and make the drops manually until the issue is clarified.

Have a nice day.
I'm using Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06), 64 bit win8.1
The Inkscape manual has lots of helpful info! http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/

Re: Weird blue/gray lines show up in my objects
Hi.
The problems is most likely "pixel misalignment" in the different filters used.
To use this many filters on each object just to create a drop shadow is an overkill and is taxing the render.
You can see same artifacts for objects that share a "common" line as well.
For these the solution has been to align the objects on a pixel-boundary.
You might have hit a bug in the way the new (to 0.91) Cairo render is displaying filters,
the common-line error was supposedly going to get better with the Cairo render.
Just remove the filters and create the drop-shadow the "conventional" way.
The "filter-expert" - XAV - on this board can probably fill you in more on the subject,

Maybe the transformation matrix applied on the filter is related too.
Re: Weird blue/gray lines show up in my objects
Ah, I'm still a bit newbie on making vector art. Gonna go and google after the the "conventional" way. :>
But glad I found a bug. So it can be solved in the future

Pssst... Some folks make a duplicate filled with black and put it behind the original.

Hi
To make a drop shadow on your "D"
Duplicate the object (CTRL + D)
Set the fill to black.
Move the duplicate "under" the original;(PGDN)
(rightclick the image to download)
Tyler - you beat me to it!
PS. To get your whole image to show when uploaded as svg - make sure all your objects fit inside the page border of your image,
to not fill the whole page in the browser it's smart to scale the objects and make the page smaller - like I have done in example above,
you can do this by "resize page to content" in the page properties (Shift Ctrl D)
Happy Inkscaping!

Re: Weird blue/gray lines show up in my objects
Sweet! I did it the right way before even reading those two posts. I guess it was that obvious. But now the shadow don't change when I change the white later. I guess I have to edit the white later and then do the shadow as the absolute last thing before rendering.
Thanks everyone!

Or use cloning.
Set undefined fill, clone (Alt+D) the object, then set fill and stroke on the parent and clone separately.
This way you can edit the parent, and the shadow below will follow the changes, just like with a filter.

Hi.
Just a little clarification, the "rendering" takes place all the time you are using Inkscape -
it's the process of "translating" the SVG file to a visible image on your screen.
The "piece of the program" taking care of this is called the "rendering engine".
The same rendering engine is used for exporting the image as a bitmap file (jpg, png, bmp) as well.
Be aware of that instead of duplicating the object you can "clone" it (Alt D),
in this way if you do any edits on the original the clone will change too.

People still using 0.48 have different renderers for onscreen display and for exporting.
Most notable on pixelated appearance of the transformed filters.
For example this was taken probably with print screen.
