I'm using Inkscape on my Mac(10.7.5) and tried this tutorial: http://www.wikihow.com/Trace-an-Image-Using-Inkscape
I imported an Jpeg, selected it and clicked>Path>Trace Bitmap.
However, the Trace Bitmap window doesn't show a preview.
I clicked update a few times, nothing.
I changed the threshold a few times and then clicked update, also nothing.
Also, when I click OK whenever I changed the options (or not), nothing happens.
The window doesn't disappear.
How can I view the preview?
And why doesn't Inkscape do anything whenever I click OK?
Please help me, would be much appreciated.
Ask me if you need any additional info.
Trace Bitmap doesn't show update
Re: Trace Bitmap doesn't show update
Hi,
on win here it works fine. Can't suggest you the dev build as the mac version is a bit late as far as I know.
Actually autotracing an image rarely produces a clean result. Some designers completely avoiding any autotracing.
For that image in that tutorial I wouldn't use the trace bitmap too.
I know it's not a solve for your problem at all, just saying that function is not the core of the vector designs you can draw with inkscape,
and suggest to move on to another tutorial.
Also could you show us the image you want to be traced?
Maybe others on mac could check it.

Re: Trace Bitmap doesn't show update
I have scanned an image and want to clean it up(get rid of the pixels), the techniques/tools themself don't matter as long as they can reach my goal.
What other clean up tools/possibilities are there?
What specific parts of the image do you want me to show? My computer is a bit slow right now so I will probably upload an image tomorrow.
