Hi,

I've downloaded 0.92.3 binary for Windows (Windows 10).  When running inkscape.com, the command line window shows a bunch of errors, and there's large blocks of black in areas of PDFs I open.  0.92.2 works fine, no listed errors and no areas of black.

Can anyone help  decipher the errors and cause?

Many thanks.
Mark

The first few lines of the error output is:

Oh gosh, the person who could probably help you with this is attending an Inkscape Hackfest (a period of a few days per year when developers meet in person for intense hacking sessions, planning and decision making about the course of Inkscape's development).

I guess she might visit this week if she gets a chance, but it might be this weekend before she has time.

There is one short string that I could venture a guess on, as part of the problem, although I don't know why it would work in 0.92.2 but not in 0.92.3.

In one place it says "Image type 'xpm' is not supported".  I might guess that there are images with XPM format (although to be honest, I've never heard of such a format) which isn't supported (can't be displayed).

Oh, I see she's posting at this moment in Launchpad, Inkscape's bug tracker.  I don't know if she is answering new bug reports, though.  It's more likely she's updating reports as the hackers are working on them during Hackfest.

But since you already have most of the required data for a good bug report, and just the fact there seems to be a big difference between versions, it sounds like a good chance you've found a bug, so I'd suggest you post there.  This page can give you the basics of what you need to make the report:  https://inkscape.org/en/contribute/report-bugs/  (Include everything you've included here.)

It's possible someone might see your report and be able to help you there, sooner than someone can help you here.  I apologize for the delay.

Those errors are about loading icons (I think), I don't think they're related to your pdf issue. Could you rather share the pdf file and describe how you import it? (screenshot of the import dialog settings)?

Yes, Brynn, you're right - but due to Kielux, I'll be busy up to and including Saturday, and then might take a short break - I need to plant some shrubs and flower bulbs before it gets too cold and catch up on other garden work :)

Thank you for your responses.  I had also posted on IRC #inkscape-devel, but it looked like most folks were at the hack fest so I posted here too.

It turns out there's some weirdness with an upstream library you use when it encounters an execution path with "bin" within that path.  You can see from my information that I did indeed have bin in the execution path.  I moved the 0.92.3 binaries to a different path without "bin" in it, and everything worked like a dream.

I apologise, I've closed the IRC session so don't have access to the specifics beyond what I typed above.  I think the nick of the person that helped may have been Ede, or something similar.  Again, apologies for the vagueness on that.

So....  Well I should apologize that I'm one of the not-so-tech-savvy Inkscape users.  But I went looking for "bin" in the path, since I had no idea what that might mean.  And I see in your commandline output, an unusual path for Inkscape.

C:\dev\bm\projects\attachments\attachments-inkscape\attachment-server\bin\windows\inkscape-0.92.3\share\icons\remove-color.png

Am I correct that you didn't install Inkscape in either Program Files or Program Files (x86) ?  Or is the odd looking path related somehow to using the commandline (which I'm not familiar with).

I thought you weren't supposed to install things outside of those 2 directories.  But I guess you must have enough technical knowledge to configure other directories correctly?  Oh....is that Inkscape running on Windows running on something else?

I did notice all the GDK references in the errors, and I thought they were related to icons, or the icon handling.  But that was going to be too much of a guess for me.

Well anyway, I'm glad you got it figured out  :)

Edit
I'm going to move this topic to Beyond the Basics board.
