Hi Friends,
In news from the development side of the Inkscape project, developers are moving to a new bug tracker.  It seems there is no real automated way to move the bugs from one tracking system to another.  So they have made a game out of it, with prizes and everything.  Probably not very many forum users will have the needed skills to participate.  But for those who think they might have the right skills, who might be reading this, you can find info here:

http://alpha.inkscape.org/bug-migration/

If you do have the right skills, please don't hesitate to jump right in!  Note the Contact button at the top-right, if you have questions.  We probably can't answer questions about it here.

Edit
I just had some guidance from developers about this.

For anyone who might have ever reported a bug, it would be very helpful if you could at least transfer your own reports over - following the instructions at the link provided.

All you would have to do, is to re-test your bug on 1.0 alpha, which can be found on this page:  https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-1.0/?latest=1.  For Windows, there's a link in the gray box (7z packages).  For Linux, the link is at the top, in the black section.  For Macs, it looks like the only option is to compile it.

Wow. Just. This. Cannot even.

Is this for real?

People spent serious time reporting their bugs in the first place.
It went through the triaging system.
Issues were organised.

Now all of them have to be "migrated"?
Not that just doing it manually. But. Retesting each of them. Like. That's taking about the same time as writing the original bug report did, AND migrating it.
Seriously, if you didn't wrote any bug reports in the past you are in a better position starting fresh writing new reports.
In that mean the previous work put into the old bug tracker, upon which current inkscape was built as a feedback -is valued less, than worthless.

Where is the trust?
The project values your efforts with *stickers*?
Didn't got the catch phrase here.

Saw the mail notifications from gitlab but haven't read the messages.
Maybe some sleeping and re-reading could help me.

If paid development is not good for longevity and maintenance, why wasn't that the main option of the board to go?
Paid migrating crew for a one time only job (migrating).
And chose paying the users who help them out, both by reporting the bug, both retesting, and both migrating with stickers?
Not to mention they don't even provide the environment on all platforms to test.
That won't keep a good brand image -which the vectors team should provide.
It devalues all of the effort put into the project, including ours.

And while at this point I'm not even sure if anything in life worth giving away for free.

You asked me if I wanted to be a moderator on the new forum. Out of all the crowd of applicants.
(Found that interesting the idea how ghosting members are kicked out of the group. Have mixed feelings about that idea.)
I never wanted to be a moderator on the old forum either. Stepped in when most needed and kept the boards from flooding.
But. That's not I ever asked for.

Joined the community since thought I could share my experience and thus gain some feedback and socialize.

Now my feedback is,
if I upload a video online, the people who I aimed at, to solve their own problem,
replying me -oh they know better, I should just ask.

Never in a lifetime people appreciate quality or free stuff and a combination of those. To the point that they cannot even realise either quality or no cost.

And approving posts.
Instead of creating decent material.
Tutorials. Anything.
No. Just no spam. Just the job of a capcha field. That's how much my online presence worths.

Could go on and on with this ranting and exposing more of my depressed thoughts how I still just climbing the steps of nonsense every day further -as in my thesis project depicted.
Although the majority of it may come from my career, most probably taking the wrong turns.
As mostly I use inkscape in my spare time to create (or used more frequently at least in the past...), such good news don't help much either.

I'm among those who would have preferred a semi-automatted migration (move automatically to gitlab, then do the sorting there). But this is not what developers want. They want to use this opportunity to clean the bug tracker, and they want to crowd-source that cleanup, because there is no other way. Reports have been neglected for a long time on launchpad, so that tracker is in a really bad state.

If you prefer to help in other places which interest you more, that's fine. I do the same.

I appreciate your work. I don't always understand your maths tricks, but I do appreciate those - as well as the repetitive and annoying spam cleanout.  I often get annoyed at having to do those types of repetitive silly tasks, too... especially when everyone just seems to take it as granted.

Countless users have expressed how much you helped them, too.

I'm sorry things don't seem to go well for you, career-wise. You're an incredibly smart person, I think you will find something that will fit well, it may just take some time.

Thank you for your kind words!
Will definitely need to migrate what bugs me into something more productive.

My overview interpretation of your feelings reminds me very much of "university burnout".  At the end of my college time (only 5 years for me), instead of being a new beginning, when I should have been starting the plans I had made for my life over those 5 years, I was overwhelmed with a sense of the uselessness of all that hard work, and the waste of time.  (I got not even a single interview, much less job offer, from mailing out a couple hundred resumes during my senior year.  And in the rest of my life, I never did find a job in my field of major.)

(Yes, I envy those people, who somehow seem to have known as a child what they were born for, they study it, they have a career in it, and they retire from it.  But when I look around, I think that scenario is rare.  I think most people cobble together the most important lessons they learn through their life pathway, from here and there, some from college, but most from every part of their life.  Some manage to realize what they were born for, before the end of their life.  But I think most only put it together towards the end of their lifetime.

Certainly I can't speak for everyone.  But I, and most people I know, have learned that the most important part of life is the journey, not the destination.  Have you heard the saying "Life is what happens while you're making other plans."?  I would urge younger people to devote their time and energy to the pursuit of happiness - not the titles, not the income, not the resume/CV - do what makes you happy!

Even though I never had a job in my major, I had a ton of fun studying my major in college, and there were plenty of other lessons too.  If happiness includes titles and income, fine.  But just don't wake up when you're 60, and have regrets.

Including off topics, tl;dr

Regarding Inkscape, it's not a matter of trust.  The main goal is to migrate the bug tracker contents.  Not everyone....and probably the vast majority of bug reporters, are not nearly as technical and detail oriented as you are.  And even though there are apparently people who are "bug managers" no one is specifically in charge of making sure every report has everything it needs.  I hope they can figure out some better logistics, so that the new tracker is maintained in a better state than the old one.  (Hhmm....if you had enough time, maybe would be perfect job for you??  Technical, detail-oriented, perfect!)

You don't have to retest your bugs/bug reports.  If you believe the old report is still valid, you can just copy/paste it over.  Well, you don't have to migrate your reports at all, if you don't want to.  You can let someone else do it.

Personally, I want to make sure mine make the transition appropriately.  Recently someone marked one of my reports, which I wanted to be a wishlist item, as "opinion".  So I wanted to make sure it got marked as "wishlist".  So I already moved it over.  Also, some of my bugs/reports might have been fixed recently.  I can only know for sure by re-testing them.

I don't know what you mean with this or what you're referring to:

Oh!  You mean the part of the Rules and Guidelines about a moderator who can't be contacted for 6 months?  I tried (and tried) to get people involved in writing those, but no one was interested.

First, they aren't set in stone, and can easily be changed with a concensus.  (If only you and I are in the discussion, a concensus is probably 2.)

The reason I wrote that, honestly, came from earlier discussions (a year ago or more).  Everyone seemed to be having a fit (at that time) that I'm still a moderator on InkscapeForum, even though I no longer moderate.  Personally, I disagree with that.  Most of the InkscapeForum moderators are no longer active, and I've never seen a forum which demoted mods if they stopped moderating.  But because everyone else seemed to think it was the right thing to do, I wrote it in.

If you, someone, anyone, thinks it should be changed, we can discuss it, and change it, if that's the concensus.

You're getting things all mixed up.  That's the job of a moderator in Inkscape forums.  It's nothing about you.  (Again, I tried and tried to get people involved in writing the Rule and Guidelines, but no one was interested.  Or at least, no one spoke up about it.)  If you think moderators should do more, we can certainly discuss it, and change the rules.

On a related note, I have put in a proposal for an "official tutorials program" for the project overall (https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/issues/318).  So far, no response, but I think I put it in the wrong account.  I just reposted it in the main project account, so maybe it will get some attention there?

But until/unless such a program or system exists, I will still maintain the same tutorial system that we've been using here at Inkscape Community.  I think it's important for the project, even though it's not technically "official", here.  So you're welcome to continue to submit tutorials here, whenever you like (as is anyone who's interested).

I'm not sure if we could make such a program part of the forum, but it's certainly not out of the question.  A very relevant question.  To me, it seems the project level is more appropriate, but I could see it at the forum level, as well.  As part of the forum team, you could help to create, organize, manage it, if it were approved (by the devs or board or whoever would approve it).  (As it sometimes seems to me, "approving it" is just a matter of "someone" "doing it".  If that were the case, you or I or whoever, would just "do it".)

I'd be interested to know more about the "anything".  :D  Everything starts with an idea!
