Hello:

Just started using InkScape today and so far I LOVE it. My question however is this, why won't the symbol show when I insert them on my canvas.  All I get when I drag, insert any symbo, tis a bounding .

amy advice would be really great!

Thank you,

Welcome to Inkscape Community!

Which version of Inkscape are you using?

Hhmm....when you said "All I get when I drag, insert any symbo, tis a bounding ." it sounds like you might be using the Text tool.  If that's the case, I guess you must be pasting the symbol into he text box?  There is a bug with Inkscape on Macs, where pasting anything causes it to become rasterized.  If the symbols you're talking about are something like ? or ? or ? you might have to use the Unicode, rather than pasting the symbol.  Info on "Unicode Mode" in the manual:  http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Text-Creating.html.

My best guess is this has something to do with the Mac paste bug.  However, if all you see is a bounding box, that usually leads us to think there's a transparency or opacity issue somewhere.  Here's a little tutorial/article I wrote, to make it easier to answer these questions.  What to Do When a Tool Stops Working (or Tools are Drawing Invisible Objects).  Or possibly....I suppose it could be a combination of these 2 things.  ( :f5: )

Depending on which version of Inkscape you're using, and what you mean by "symbols" it could be some other issue.  Inkscape has a Symbols dialog, which is new with 0.91, and uses custom symbol sets or libraries.  So if that's the kind of symbols you're using, there may be yet some other cause.

We can go 1 step at a time, until we figure out what's happening  :D
