Hello all,

Kind of new to Inkscape, so bear with me. I inked a drawing and imported it into Inkscape to get a vector version made up for scaling capabilities, but for some reason there is always a pixelized border when I go to fill in the empty spaces with color. Does anyone know what the deal is here? I've made sure to scale and zoom the vector path after making it and it's totally smooth all the way around until I go to fill - There is always a pizelized white border on the outside of the now-smooth vector path. I'll include images to hopefully better illustrate what I mean.

P.S. What is the best vector file type to export an image to? I tried to just import the file into GIMP as a .svg, but it was pixelated right out of the gate, which I thought the file type was supposed to maintain vector qualities upon export. I'm lost on this subject because there is so much conflicting info out there.

Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help! =)

Welcome aboard!

Gimp can handle svg-s with huge limitations. As vector content it can pull in only paths (B) that you can either turn to a selection or to pull a brush around them, as far as I know.

I don't know where you see the pixelation in those screenshots.
Can you elaborate more on the drawing process you are using?

Hhm, I think you might have attached the same image twice.  So I don't see the problem either.

Just importing a file into Inkscape, and saving it, doesn't magically make it a vector image.  The SVG format can contain both vector and raster content.  So if you imported a raster image, and saved as SVG, what you have is a raster image inside the SVG file.  So it never has been vectorized, and of course is still pixelated.

If you're using the Paint Bucket tool to fill in color, surprisingly, that tool still works when you use it with a raster image!  That tool does leave a small gap of unfilled area.  So I might guess that you're seeing a sliver of the raster image, between the color applied by the Paint Bucket tool, and the enclosed area.

If you look on the Paint Bucket tool control bar (just above the horizontal ruler) you'll see a Grow/Shrink setting.  However, it's not perfect, and there will always be areas where it doesn't fill completely, and maybe even areas where the color extends outside the enclosed area.  I always have to tweak the new color object with the Node tool.

Which vector format is best, depends on what you're going to do with it.  Why are you importing the SVG file into GIMP?
