Hi, first post to this forum.  I love Inkscape and have been learning a lot.  Most things I can learn on youtube and inkscape.org, but I'm trying to find a way to do something specific that I can't find.

I run a makerspace in Chattanooga and we use Inkscape to drive our lasercutter (through a full spectrum print driver).  One of the things we always have to do is to a Control-D, and set area to selected objects.  This limits what objects we send to the cutter driver, and has to be done or the cutter pukes.  Not a big deal, only about 5 operations, (control-D, drag window to middle, open the plus, select the button, close window...).  I'm curious if there are any extensions out there (via .py and .inx) that can add a shortcut to do this?

Thanks and regards,
Jeff Johnson

Welcome to the forum!

Just trying to follow your process.  Ctrl D is duplicate. Drag to middle.  What's "open the plus"?  Plus key is zoom, but not sure why you would do that?

"Set area to selected objects"  Do you mean Document Properties > Page tab > Resize page to contents  ??

I can't think of any faster way.....  Well, why do you duplicate?  Could you resize to contents on the original?

Why do you drag it somewhere?  You can use Resize to contents anywhere.

Sorry, I meant control-shift-D (doc properties), the plus is to open the "resize page to content" dropdown dialog, then, the button is "Resize to drawing or selection".

Well, within an open document, the resize to content section of the dialog should stay open, so you wouldn't need to click the plus sign every time.  But I can't think of any shortcut to that routine, in general.

I see that in Document Properties > "Resize to content", the "z" is underlined, which I think means that's a Windows key shortcut.  And then the button "Resize page to drawing" the "R" is underlined.  So it might be possible to reduce it all to key shortcuts.

I'm not sure how to use Windows key shortcuts.  After you use Ctrl + Shift + d to open Doc Props, I'm not sure how to activate the Windows shortcut "z" after that.

Oh!  Just messing around.  Alt + z expands the plus sign.  Then....  Yes, Alt + r activates the button.  So this key sequence works:

Ctrl + Shift + d, then Alt + z, then Alt + r, then whatever closes a dialog....  Alt + c  (Or leave the dialog open - due to a bug, it opens on the edge of the screen anyway.)

Other than that, I can't think of any faster way.

There's a shortcut for 'Resize page to selection' now, Ctrl+Shift+R, or Edit > Resize page to selection.
