Hi, I'm a very new newbie, and yet I've searched around all I can for the answer to why this problem is happening, with no luck. I've attached a screenshot, but basically when I use any of the shape tools, the stroke line is invisible, even though I've set it to certain values. I can only see the shape if it has a fill. In the screenshot, I've selected the shape with the pointer tool to see the box surrounding it, but as you can see it is "invisible." As you can also see, the stroke is set to a blue color, and opacity is 100%. Is this a problem with the software or is it something I'm not doing right?

Thanks!
Elan

Welcome to our forum!

I wrote this tutorial, for this kind of situation, just for future reference:  http://forum.inkscapecommunity.com/index.php?action=articles;sa=view;article=18

In this case, I think I see the problem.  The stroke is only 0.0354 px wide.  (less than half of a half of a pixel  So it's there, but so narrow that our eyes can't see it.  The Stroke Style tab of the Fill and Stroke dialog, is where you can adjust the width  :D
