Unable to Export PNG Image

Hi all, I've looked through the tutorials and forum, but I don't see anything quite like the issue I'm having.

When I try to save an image using the "Export as PNG Image" it just doesn't save. The dialog box comes up and I can type in a file name and hit the save button, but then it just doesn't exist. The images are not where I try to save them, but the file name will come up under "recent files" and if I open it, I just get a message saying "it looks like the file was moved or renamed." I was able to save as PNG previously so I'm not sure why this is happening now. I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure it out.

A 'save' button doesn't exist in that dialog, it's called 'Export'. But that is the dialog you are writing about?

Does it work if you select the file location by using the 'Export as...' button? Maybe there's a typo somewhere.

And lastly: are you saving on some kind of non-local disk? External drive? Cloud space?

Welcome to the forum!

When you click "Export As" button, you have to put the full path, including the file name, there.  So for example C:\Users\brynn\Pictures\Inkscape\mandalas\man16.png.  Or else whatever it is for your operating system.  If you only put the file name, it won't work.

If you click "Export As" button, it allows you to choose the directory.  Just browse to the place where you want to put it, type the file name, and click Save button.

(If you don't put your own file path there, and let Inkscape decide where to put it, Inkscape defaults to the directory you see in Inkscape Preferences > System > Temporary Files)

Then you can't forget, after you have the whole file path, you still need to click the Export button, in the Export PNG dialog.  (That happens to me a lot  )

Thank you for the responses - Sorry, I did mean the "export" button. Nothing was happening when I clicked it. I looked into the path it was defaulting to, and it seems it was trying to save to a folder from my other computer (so it does not exist on this one), even though I was choosing a new directory with the "export as" when I was exporting it. I think I've fixed it now though. Thank you!
