Outlook claims to support svg after software update - any experience

Hi forum.

At work today, after an MS Office update I was sendt to a MS website claiming that Outlook is now supporting svg files.

Any of you here got to try and have some experiences with that? If I got time (at job) I'll see if I can give it a try.

I have some doubts that MS Outlook (other MS office programs wasn't mentioned about supporting svg as I can recall) actually fully support an svg file where filters, embedded raster images etc. works just out of the

Update.

Adding a svg file (plain one, no images or filters used - just a plain schematic) to Outlook, went smooth.

After I got home I used Chromium to login to my hotmail email account. The image appear in browser - but as a jpg file, not vector at all. For some weird reason the hotmail account won't work correctly with Firefox, so I'm not able to test - but I assume that the end result will be pretty much the same for any web readers used.

Conclusion: It is possible to add a svg file to outlook, but to the reciving mail (using web reader), the file just appear as a simple jpg - no magic at all 

I have not tried to sent a svg file to other users that actually uses MS Outlook.

Hi Grobe,
Yeah, as far as I know, Outlook is Windows 10's email app, but it's not a fully featured email program.  One of the reasons I only lasted a couple of weeks on Windows 10!

What if you open the email -- do you see the SVG in the email?  Or is it only attached?  I'm not sure what the big deal is about an email app supporting SVG.  Is the new feature about attaching an SVG?  Or showing it in the message, when you open the message to read it?  It seems like SVG should have been attachable already.

It's probably possible for any Windows user to create an Outlook account.  I guess I'd have to use the web mail for Outlook, since I reverted to Windows 7.  Although I'm not sure if I have time right now.

Can you give the link they provided?  I might read up on it a little more.

Maybe it's a good sign about MS supporting SVG better?

Hi Brynn.

There is no svg when opening the mail, only an attached jpg image - that it it is bundled in mail, not appearing on attachment list.

Outlook clearly doesn't attach the svg  file in any way, it just do a dummy-conversion to jpg without notify the user.

The message - info from MS about "svg support" came through pop-up boxes within MS office as it was nagging for updating, so there exist no such link.

That said - It turns out that MS Word also "support" svg. That is - when importing svg - just the same way as adding any image file to a document - it seem to just do a dummy convert into a raster image format, at least it appears as raster after exporting to pdf and open the pdf afterwards.

Well if you insert an SVG into an Outlook mail, and it's changed to a JPG, then it's really not supporting SVG.  Is it?

I guess that it depends who you ask. MS says yes, obviously - I would say no.

MS Office may be able to scale the inserted svg correctly, but it surely don't export to vector graphic. I neither have tried to print from Word to see if it does the scaling the right way.
