Image with incorrect reference

Hi. I am using inkscape for the first time and I have a problem with the 0.46 version. Would anybody help me with this?

Can you explain what the problem is? I only see a (local) path to a file with an obscure 'incorrect reference' message and a message about clicking on handles.

Why are you using 0.46? (Current version is 0.92.3)

I'm not sure what you mean by "incorrect reference".  Is that an error message?  Exactly where do you see it?  Do you see it in Inkscape or in your file manager?

At least part of the info you provided looks like it comes from Inkscape.  But version 0.46 is so old, likely none of us knows what it means.

I have a suspicion it has to do with an imported raster image which Inkscape can't find.  And if that  file was created at the time when 0.46 was the stable version....well....I was going to say there's a good chance you've moved or even deleted that file since then.  But likely you have a different computer by now, that's how long it's been!  I'm actually on my 3rd computer since 0.46 was current!

I suggest upgrading to the current stable version, which is 0.92.3.  If you still have the problem, please post again, and share the SVG file with us.

Hi, this mistake appears when i want to import a bmp file. You can see the problem in the screenshot i had sent you.
I use this version because  after vectoring this file i need to export it as better dxf output file. If i had installed this extension in 0.92.3 version, appear the mistake like in the other picture i sent. Therefore i decided to use the 0.46 version, where it was cheked.

In your last screenshot of the Inkscape canvas, it looks like something is selected.  Have you scrolled around to see if anything is showing, anywhere, at all?  I mean, Inkscape seems to know what size it is.  If it knows what size it is, it must have found it.....

"incorrect reference"  I wonder what it means by "reference"??  Is Drive F connected to the computer?

"incorrect reference" sounds like Inkscape can't find it.  But it's at least found what size it is.  If you follow the file path which is showing in the status bar, do you see the BMP image?  Can you open it with an image viewer?

I suppose it's possible version 0.46 can't display BMP images, but that doesn't really seem very logical.

I'm fairly well stumped with the BMP problem, at least for now.  Can  you share the BMP file?  Could it be corrupt, or something like that?

I found some brief info in the manual about BMP files, and it says that Inkscape will display them.  There's a comment there which gives me the idea of trying to embed the BMP.  So while it's selected, do Extensions menu > Images > Embed Images.  Apparently that will convert it to a PNG.  I don't know if that would work, but it can't hurt to try.

Nevermind, I don't think that extension was available in 0.46.  But if you can find any kind of option for embedding the BMP, it won't hurt to try it.

Maybe "reference" has to do with the internal structure of the image?  But I wouldn't know what to do about it.

Regarding the problem with DXF, I'm probably not the best person to ask.  I found these 2 older extensions - so old that it's not surprising that they don't work in the current version of Inkscape.  The traceback error you shared sounds like it might come from one of these (although I don't really understand much about what the error means - I just recognize the file name).

With the current version of Inkscape, DXF can be saved natively, without need for an extension.  When you say you need a "better output" exactly what do you mean by that?  I know there are different types of DXF, and I know some people use other programs to get the right type.

I don't know if any of these would help, but these are all the DXF export extensions that I know about.  I don't know if any of them might work better, with the current version of Inkscape.  Or maybe you have already researched this, and you've already tried them??  But just in case:

I second Brynn's suggestions - please try a couple of the other extensions, and use a current Inkscape version.

If then you still need a different DXF version, I think it's not hard to fix the extension.
