Hi

I am a new inkscape user - and have searched for an answer to my questions but could not find it. I have tried inkscape on two different computers. When I open the attached file in inkscape nothing appears in the work space. The file is created in Slicer for Fusion 360. I export the file from Slicer using A4 as the size and mm units. When I open the file using the the A360 online viewer it displays perfectly - here is a link (I am not sure if anyone would be able to view it) https://a360.autodesk.com/viewer/#id/dXJuOmFkc2sub2JqZWN0czpvcy5vYmplY3Q6YTM2MHZpZXdlci90MTQ5ODU4NzczMDc0MF8wNzgwOTI4MzA1MDcyOTQyMV8xNDk4NTg3NzMwNzQwLmR4Zg?designtype=dxf

I select "manual scale"  when I open the file.

I do not have a clue about what I am doing wrong and would appreciate any help

Welcome to the forum!

I don't think Inkscape is capable of opening a DXF file.  Do you have any other options for saving or exporting?
  • Inkscape version 0.92.3
  • Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit

Not sure what the reason may be, but:
- LibreCAD can export to SVG, and to dxf 14
- It might be an incompatibility issue of versions. You need at least dxf 13 to work with Inkscape.

So, what worked for me was:
- Install LibreCAD
- open file
- export to SVG OR save as 'Drawing Exchange DXF R14'

Inkscape can open DXF files - it is listed as one of the files formats in the file open dialog. I have now found another thread where DXF files are discussed on this forum - here http://www.inkscapeforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11681

From this thread it seems that even Inkscape is supposed to be able to open DXF filesit sometimes works and sometime it doesn't

Interesting.  I was going by the FAQ about what Inkscape can open/import/export, which does not mention DXF.

https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#what-formats-can-inkscape-importexport

I'm not sure if this is new with 0.92, but either way, maybe we should edit the FAQ.
