I am trying to import a DXF of a logo into inkscape and using the file =>import function. It keeps coming up with this error and fails to import. see attachment. Has anyone experienced this? Why is this happening and how can I fix it so I can import my DXF?

What version of Inkscape are you using? Can you just update? (uninstall completely, remove all files in the installation directory, then reinstall). This looks like you're using an outdated import extension with an almost current version of Inkscape.

This problem is mostly over my head.  But I'd  be glad to try testing, if you could share the DXF file.

See attached I'm very new to Inkscape but I feel like this should not be that difficult.

Ah, right. I'm sorry, that was the wrong suggestion :-( :-( :-(

There are two issues here:

1. There is an error message, and that error message causes an error.
2. The reason for the error message is that the file format version is not supported by Inkscape. You need to convert it to version 13 of the dxf file format. To do so, you can use any CAD software that does it. I use LibreCAD for this, the error message suggests something called QCad.

The error message causes an error?

"This dxf version will not" what?

Cleaned it out. Was a remainder of another 'draft'. Yes, the error message causes an error...

So do you think inkscape will do an update to accept not version 13 of dxfs? I'm really confused where this version 13 thing is coming from? I'm taking this dxf directly from a sketch in Autodesk Inventor 2018.

I have no idea about plans for that extension. You may also look for other extensions that do the same, but have been developed by someone else. I have heard of an extension called 'better dxf import (or was it export?)', for example. Or just try it out. Maybe also look at the export options of Autodesk Inventor.

I think that one's for export.

The only DXF import extension I know about is this one.  But I don't know exactly what an "import filter" is.  http://kabeja.sourceforge.net/docs/projects/inkscape.html
