I reinstalled Inkscape.  It took several minutes.  So if there is an easier way to reset Inkscape's settings to a default, I'd love to know it...

I made a hex.  I cloned it.  again and again.  Eventually, I had a grid of about 100 by 100 hexes.  Then I colored a few in and deleted the ones outside of the pattern.  I cloned this, put a new copy in the center of the page (B0, 1 meter by 1.4 meters).  I put another clone next to it, and...  For some reason, the snap feature stopped working.  It's still turned on in the Document Properties box.  I think there is something about a "clone of a clone" that I am unaware of?

Strange.  This is the second time Inkscape seems to just stop doing what it had been doing...  Sorry for being such a newb at this.  I've been able to use complex programs in the past.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

I had the original 361 hex assembly with some colored in, at a different place in the document.  I selected it.  Cloned it.  But when I went to move it, it kept snapping to a point about  third of the way from the edge of the hexes.  It said "cusp node to cusp node" and there was a red x where it was attracted to.  It hadn't done that before, but then again, this was the first time I deleted any hexes out of the clone.

DONE.

It wouldn't let me delete my own topic/thread.

You should be able to delete your own messages (as far as I remember).  But I'm glad you didn't, because I can give you some more tips.

It's NOT a good idea to make a clone of a clone of a clone, etc.  Inkscape will eventually crash.  The freezing that you're seeing at this point could be because of doing that.  Of course with the size you want for the final image, it might crash anyway.  But still, for making multiple clones, it's better to use Edit menu > Clones > Tiled Clones.  That automatically make many clones from the same parent.

Although, if you use clones, you won't be able to color the individual hexagons differently.

Snapping takes a bit of practice to be able to use it more than it uses you, haha.  But if you notice a particular behavior that you don't want, show us a screenshot of what happens, including how you have the snap control  bar set.  Or if you want a particular behavior, we can tell you how to configure it.
