Hi Guys,

I am new here. I come from an Adobe Illustrator background. I've only just learnt about Inkscape and I'm thinking about a change :D

There are a few tools I am used to in Illustrator that I can't seem to find in Inkscape.

Firstly is the corner roundess, when I am drawing anchor points and I create a corner Illustrator has a neat tool that allows you to round the corner by a small circular gizmo that appears right by the corner. When you drag on this it creates two anchor points from the original one and rounds out the corner. I'm not really expecting to have that specific tool in Inkscape but I was wondering if something similar is available?

Also is it possible to theme/personalize your own version of Inkscape? And create your own icons for the tools?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard!
There is a live path effect "", just missed the 0.92 release. Some bug fixes are still needed.

What made in, is the simplify lpe:

Customizing your inkscape is possible to some extent but I never tried doing it.
There is an icons.svg in the program folders, however it's better making the changes in the config folder and some icons may come from your os -current inkscape uses gtk2.

I saw your other post and judged by that you know about it more than me already.

Do mean just any corner, or do you mean the corner of rectangles?  For rectangles (or squares), the Rectangle tool has the ability to round corners.  It doesn't sound like it works the same as Illustrator though.

When you're using the Pen/Bezier tool, you can make round corners either as you draw them, or coming back later to round them using the node handles.  Cusp/Corner nodes make sharp corners, and Smooth nodes make round corners.  To set corner nodes, just click once.  to set a smooth node, click-drag, and you can see the handles coming right out of the node.

Personally, I've never been able to control the smooth nodes enough to just drag them out as I draw a path.  I'm not much of an artist.  But some people are quite good at drawing round corners by setting smooth nodes, and adjusting them on the fly.  It takes some practice, I'm sure.

On Linux systems, I have the impression that it's fairly easy to change the theme.  But I don't think there's any way to change the theme with Windows.  Well, not in terms of color.  But you can use any icon set, if you find one.  I thought I saw a set on the Inkscape website recently.  Or you could always make your own, if you had enough time and motivation.  I've made a feature request for a system of skins or themes which are easily installed and exchangeable.  But I expect developers are more interested in adding vector graphics features, than themes.

Most Illustrator converts that I've heard of, seem to find it frustrating to use Inkscape.  I don't understand why they think Inkscape should work the same way as Illustrator, since Inkscape does not strive to be, or promote itself as an Illustrator replacement.  Inkscape does not have nearly as much fancy functionality as Illustrator, but it's still an excellent tool, and as far as I understand, it has some features which Illustrator doesn't.

There's a small section in the manual which covers the basic differences:  http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Illustrator.html

Was mentioned in your link, which further suggested renaming files.
Manual bit outdated.

Geez, you're always 3 steps ahead of me!  But yes, the manual is fairly well outdated.  But at least for basic info, might help.

Thanks for the replied guys!

I'll do some more reading up on how to customize Inkscape the icons sounds like fun, I did post on another forum about that.

If I come up with a new icon pack I will gladly share it.

I think it may take some getting used to (I've used Illustrator for a good 3 years now) but I think I can get the hang of it the more I use Inkscape :)

@Lazur, that tool is exactly what I was looking for the functionality is even similar to Illustrator! I'll wait for this to be added into Inkscape :D
