Looks like this tables feature might have become obsolete since I installed it.

Waiting for reply at support forum.  But it might be that the whole editor has been overhauled   :beg:

Hi brynn

Just curious as to what you're trying to do with this table.  You want a table,  1 row and 2 cells, and want to add it to your signature?  Is this only for you as admin, or you need all your members to be able to do this?

No, the 1 row, 2 cell table is just the simplest to test with.  I probably would use something different.  It's just for my own signature although if it is a bug, fixing it would fix for all members.  Not sure if you just happened to visit, or you saw http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=521196.0?

Since starting that topic, now I realize that it's not just tables that doesn't work in my signature.  I can't even add plain text to it.  It's really looking to me like it's a problem with the bbcode and possibly only with the wysiwyg editor.  (And not a bug at all.)  When I switch out of wysiwyg mode (in my profile), I can make tables without any problems, and otherwise edit my sig at will.

I have half a mind to click that Toggle View button and fix the bbcode.  But that Toggle View button is like inviting trouble, lol!  Normally I avoid it like the plague.  But it really does behave just like it does when there's some mixed up tags.

As per my last message in the SMF forum, I'm just wondering which would be the best way to go.  Take risk and use Toggle View (not a very big risk, since it's not a very complicated signature).   Or just switch out of wysiwyg mode to edit it.  Actually, now that  I realize the wysiwyg mode is controled from the profile, I might just not use it anyway.  It doesn't always close tags, which especially bugs me when I need to use quotes.

Anyway, that's the summary  :D

Well after much discussion, and realizing I was using the buggy "wysiwyg" editor, I've decided to just stop using it.  That solves all the problems, as far as my signature, and quite a few others in general, lol.

I totally had misunderstood the setting in Profile > Look and Layout > Show WYSIWYG editor on post page by default.  I thought wysiwyg meant that the editor has buttons that you can use to format your message.  I thought not having that enabled (checked) would make the editor strictly text only, like Notepad, for example, where there would be no buttons, and I would have to type in all the bbcode.

Well, now that I understand what it means, I don't need at all, and I'm  happy to get rid of it, lol!  :D

Now let's see if I can make a nicer signature....  :ct:
