Hi there,

Does anyone know how to underline text in Inscape?

I downloaded the "Underline Text" extension from http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Inkscape_Extensions. For the installation, I followed these instructions https://inkscape.org/gallery/=extension/. And now I'm stuck. I don't see "Underline Text" in the Extensions menu of inskape.

Anyone know how to underline text (v0.92)

Hhmm, I'm not familiar with that extension....and I can't seem to find it at the link you gave.  I'd like to try it though.

Oh, but I found this:  https://github.com/mcjohnalds/inkscape-underlinetext

Without that, you have to just draw the underline with the Pen or Pencil tool.  Yeah, I know....it's a big ol' pain.  I guess we just have to remember that Inkscape is not a word processor.  Maybe version 1.0 will have it???  I really have no idea, but I hope.

I'll install that extension and post how I like it shortly.  Oh wait, I already have it installed, haha.  I must have forgotten, because I haven't tested it.  Let's see....

Aaww....  Sadly, it won't underline single words.  It can only underline the whole text object.  That means, if you want one word underlined (or one sentence when the text object is several sentences, you have to type it as a separate text object, and go to a lot of pain to align it with the rest of the text.

If 1.0 isn't going to have  text underlining, I might ask that extension author for a new feature....

Extensions don't receive info about marked text sections, so this isn't going to work for single words without a change to Inkscape itself, Brynn.

As for the underline extension, it works for me and is available in the 'Text' submenu.

Can you share a screenshot of the contents of your personal extensions folder, please? Probably it's an issue with where you put the files.
And please also share the file 'extension-errors.log' from your personal Inkscape configuration directory.

You should find Underline Text in the Text submenu of Extensions menu.  If it's not there, I agree with Moini, that it probably didn't get installed correctly.

And actually, those instructions on this page https://inkscape.org/gallery/=extension/ are inadequate.  It would not be surprising if it didn't get installed correctly with those instructions.  I wonder if it should just contain a link to the FAQ item, if the full instructions are too long for that area?

Try this FAQ item:  https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/#how-install-new-extensions-palettes-document-templates-symbol-sets-icon-sets-etc
