Can no longer add new stops to existing gradient

UPDATE: Problem fixed. I simply duplicated the object. The new object functioned normally.
NOTE: If anybody stills has a question, I won't be able to reply. The login page is not https so I won't be able to use the forum without a secure login.

I have successfully created a square and circle -- each with a two-color gradient -- and a single letter for my logo. Each gradient has two mid stops, one matching the color at the center, the other matching the color at the radius.

I want to add a third color but something happened and I can no longer create a new stop. When I click on the base path, it disappears. Same thing for both gradients. I zoom in close to be sure I'm on the path and the pointer confirms that I'm hovering over it.

When I hover over the path, away from a node, the Notification Region has said different things at different times but basically it says the same as when hovering over empty canvas (Pressing various Command keys does not change the notice, nor does toggling 3-button mouse emulation):
- At one point, it went blank.
- Other times it says, "No gradient handles selected out of 7 on 1 selected object."
- Most of the time it says, "Drag or double-click to create a gradient on selected objects, drag handles to adjust gradients."
I have no idea why I get different messages because I'm following the same steps every time.

I can select the existing handles, move them, change color, etc. But as soon as I click anywhere along the path (outside of a node), the path disappears. The gradient tool remains selected so I can click the object to bring the path back. If I create a new object with a gradient, I can add stops to that one. Everything works as expected other than adding a new stop to the existing gradients.

I examined all of my options in the gradient dialog and even Document Properties but don't see that I've checked or unchecked any options that could affect this. Nothing is locked (that I can find). I haven't been working with any tools other than the ones needed (Create simple objects with gradient and add text). Nothing is grouped, I'm on the correct layer.

All of the manuals and video tutorials I've found give simple instructions and, up to this point, everything was pretty easy, even for a first-time project like this. I really don't want to have to re-create the work if I can avoid it.

Regarding the login page, it is indeed secure.  In the screenshot I just made, you can see that the address is https.  I don't know what link you clicked to get here, which still uses http.  But you can just  add the "s" manually (and then press Enter), and get to a secure page.  Or you can log in from the dark blue box in the top-right corner  of any page.  (Except for embedded images, or other things which are beyond my control, the entire site is secure.  I have an SSL certificate for the whole server.)

I also have trouble when trying to add new gradient stops.  I'm with you, everything I've read says double-click on the gradient handle, to add new stops.  But sometimes, it just does not work.  I've even posted messages on the mailing list, to ask developers.  I don't know, maybe I should make a bug report.  But the problem is that it's itermittent.  So how could developers fix it, if they can't reliably reproduce.

But fortunately, we have a fix.  On the Gradient tool control bar, there's a button for adding stops.  And that's what I use.  Just select a stop, and click that button, and a new stop gets added.

There is a slight problem with that button for me.  I'm not sure if I reported it, but I might have.  In any case, that button only adds stops towards the end of the gradient.  Like if it's a default, left to right, linear gradient, you can only add stops to the right of the selected stop.  The next stop that's added goes halfway between the last stop and the selected stop.  And it won't add stops to the left at all.  I think they should be added in a different way, but of course I have no control over changing it - just the request I think I made.

That's good news. Hopefully I won't have a great need for the forum but I would certainly like to have the option available. Here's how I got to the insecure login:

Thanks for the tips for the stop button. I tried it before I finished reading and it didn't work (because I selected the radius stop, I now know). But then I tried the center stop and it worked.

It's still not https, at least not fully (contains data that is not https, it's the images in tp-files) - and the cutting design page isn't https at all.
Will you add a certificate for that one, brynn?

I'm not sure what you mean Moini.  The original complaint was about the login page.  It doesn't have any non-secure contents on it (....well, not unless it's part of something more technical than I can understand) (like some script or something).

If you're talking about the whole site, there's not much I can do about the content added by users using http sources.  Well, not unless I want to make some kind of rule about it, and then have to enforce it.

ICD is fully https under the same SSL certificate - login page too....with the same exception of content added by users, which I can't control.

For the images on TP pages - for the Home tab, I'm in the process of making a major update there, so I'll be sure and change the URLs for the images.  Since it seems to be such a concern, I'll try and update all the other TP pages too.

ICD does not use TP, although it probably has some links to TP pages here.

To be honest, I don't really understand what it is about having an image on a page which uses http URL, which allows some bad actor to see what you're doing.  Why would someone care that you're visiting such a small site as this, a site which does not generate any kind of income, or contain any valuable content which someone else might want to steal.  And except for some YT videos which people embed, there's no other connection to google.  So we're really out of the loop for that aggressive kind of tracking.  I just don't understand what the lure would be for a bad actor to "eavesdrop" (as the brower warning calls it) here.

If you're talking about the links on the Community page of the Inkscape website, I changed the links for both sites.

I saw you changed them, and then checked if your sites are using https. And they aren't, or at least they aren't using it fully.

If you manually type https:// in front of www.inkscapecuttingdesign.com/smf/index.php, then press Enter, you'll get the secure site.  Or if you follow the new link from the Inkscape website page, you should be getting the secure address.

As I mentioned before, I will update the other pages where I am able to fix the problems.

I use htaccess on my own site to force all pages to use https regardless of the input (Requires RewriteEngineOn).

Oh, that's strange!  I'll look into it.

Meanwhile, if you have to use that site, you can type in the s, and get the secure site.  Hopefully I'll have it fixed today, depending what's causing the problem.
