brainstorming about this website threw up some ideas i want to throw in the discussion.

1) home/start - page of the website

would be cool to see a magazine-like layout with some news about inkscape and its features, artist - portraits, and art. just as an eye catcher when you hit the site. for more visually oriented people. a header at the forum to scroll through actual art in the galleries and/or which thumbnails 5 of the most loved artwork on the gallery could be nice also.

2) gallery
regarding the points lazur URH made in older threads about the gallery, there is potential for improvement too.

beside that it's already a cool site..

Thanks for your comments!  I think these are great ideas  :)

Let me ask this.  If these features can be included in the new forum, would that be good for you?  Or do you think they should be separate?

We'll be looking at all kinds of different software for the new forum, so I'll particularly keep your ideas in mind, and look for software that can do that.  If for some reason, some of our wanted features can be put into the new forum, I could still have them here.

If you (or anyone) knows about software that can do this, please tell me about it (or give a link, or at least searchable name).

Edit
PS - I'm always open to ideas for improving Inkscape Community.  But at this time when the new forum is being designed, I think I should wait and see what happens.  I only created Inkscape Community to fill in what I saw were features missing in the community.  And that's what it will continue to be.  But right now, we don't know which features might still be needed.  And there's a chance IC will be scaled back quite a lot, once the new forum opens.  But I think parts of it will continue to be around (unless inkscape.org decides to include large amounts of 3rd party links).
