How to save in high res pdf?

Hello,

I need to create a higher resolution pdf document from Inkscape.

I apologize if the answer is somewhre in the forum but I could not find it. If there are no filters and no raster images in your svg file, then export to pdf will export only vector paths. Those are resolution-independent and will render crisp at any zoom level.

So, what kind of objects does your svg file contain?

I have no idea what raster images are and, as far as I know, I did not apply any filters. But I only started using Inskscape a few weeks ago. How do I check and what should I do?

Could you translate the error message for us English-speakers? Not only I can't copy the text out of the JPG, but I wouldn't know which text to put in a translator.

Again, thank you for the help. Yes, the error message on Vistaprint reads: "this is immage is low resolution and the resulting print will be of low quality. Replace it with a high resolution image"

Your svg file contains an imported raster image (that is: images based on pixels, not on vector paths).
The raster image is the two shields.

How large are you going to print the drawing?
What is the resolution (dpi - dots per inch) Vistaprint requires?

The poster itself will be A0 size:
Size 84.5 x 119.3 cm
Resolution 5821 x 8219 pixel

Another Inkscape challenge concerns the background. When I upload a pdf saved from a Photoshop creation, the resulting background is white and homogeneous in Vistaprint. When I upload a pdf saved from a Inkscape, the resulting background of the image stands out against the background of the poster in Vistaprint. I do not set any background in Photoshop or Inkscape and I use the same image in both.

Since Vistaprint accepts the psd format, is there any way to convert an svg file to psd?

If you have a vector type of image, that would be better to start with. Vector file types include .ps, .eps, .pdf, .ai, .cdr, and of course .svg.

Please post the file types you have, and maybe we can suggest a helpful workflow.

If the first one is ok, how would I go about creating the pdf document in svg? If you look at the Vistaprint error message and image, the letters too are insufficient resolution, not only the image.

I would use the large png and add text with Inkscape, before saving as a pdf for printing. You can probably find a similar typeface for the text online.

It won't be totally vector content, but at 300dpi, it should be ok for a poster.

Thank you, again, Tyler, for your time. I appreciate that you are helping me to solve my original question (increase resolution for Vistaprint) by addressing the underlying problem (vector instead of pixels) instead of the problem at hand (higher resolution). It may seem simple to you but it's new to me. Teaching me to fish instead of giving me a fish, is way better!

I also appreciate the time to research a similar font which is, again, very kind and way more than I hoped for with my initial help request. Unfortunately this font has now become part of the company logo and has been used on business cards, website and other marketing matrial so we cannot change it, at this point. In fact, we we chose this font exactly because we found it in Inkscape and assumed that this would help us in future productions!

First quesiton: are not all Inkscape fonts vectors?
Second question: if not so (as it appears) then can I transform these letters into vectors, in a practical way? If it takes way too much time and expertise, it may be cheaper to redo all business cards and all marketing material for all 21 officers... We will be using this font over and over again in more producitons, sizes, formats, etc?
Third quesiton: is png a vector format (as it appears from your suggestion)?

If you have the font, that is good. I presumed it was rare or custom...what is the name of the font?

Fonts are vector, so that will work well. The png is raster, but high enough resolution to work in this case; it won't be scaled enough to degrade significantly.

In a perfect world, all the artwork would be vector. The logo was probably vector originally, but if you don't have access to those documents, the high resolution png logo can be converted to vector, but that usually takes more time and skill.

I'd make the Inkscape document the size of the poster and use the hi rez PNG and new text. Save the svg and save a copy as pdf, converting the text to paths in the pdf save-dialog.

The font is Imprint MT shadow, and we found it in the list ot Inkscape "Text and Fonts" menu. But, as you can see from the OP image, it came out blurred. Please advise how to obtain also the font in sufficient resolution.

As far as I understand, all fonts are vectors, period. But if it's an image of some text, that's not a font anymore.

Ok, I tested the Madrid A2 svg shared on dropbox... saving a copy as a pdf from that file looks pretty good, so I'm wondering if the correct file got uploaded to Vistaprint.

Please make a copy of Madrid A2 as pdf and share on dropbox?

Also please post your system info and Inkscape version.

1. How do I pause your video?
2. When I go to File, Import and I select the .png file, I then click on "open", but the file is immediately imported into the document and I do not go through the step of the "png bitmap image import" menu, that I see on your video. Ho do I access that menu before the file is imported?
