Inkscape Beginners' Questions / Re: HELP - Can't stop drag
« Last post by brynn on December 21, 2019, 09:41:25 PM »
When you let go of the mouse button, the object should stop moving.  If that doesn't happen, I would probably suspect the mouse.  Are you using a graphics tablet?

The only way I could see this happening, is maybe if you have locked a layer.  Although if that were the case, you would not be able to pick it up either.  I can't think of any way that you could have picked it up from an active layer, and brought it to a locked layer.  If that were the case, it would likely be a bug.

You're welcome to share the SVG file, if you want us to look at it.  But I might be the only one who can look at it.  Most everyone else has moved to the new forum.  Read on.

Apparently you can't see the announcement on the forum index page, that this forum is not taking support questions anymore, and will be shut down completely in a little over a month.

There's a new forum on the Inkscape website.  There are lots of people there who can help, while there are very few people here.

Inkscape Beginners' Questions / HELP - Can't stop drag
« Last post by RetroTech on December 21, 2019, 06:35:24 PM »
I am in the middle of a project and somehow I've grabbed the image to drag and I can't get it to let go. I am getting the four directional arrow mouse icon, I can move the image all over the screen, but I can't get it to drop back down on the page. Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, as I've indicated, I'm planning to upload that to the Inkscape website, as part of the new tutorials system.  Just waiting for some help setting up the website (didn't check my email yet today, maybe got a reply by now).

Thank you Lazur! That's going to be useful, also easy to find.

Brynn would you post that image to the other forum or allow us to reupload it?

Never mind, got it derived.

Please keep the 'what to do when a tool stops working' tut somewhere  I'm linking to it frequently, it's a very useful resource.

Can help with that.

Oh now storing that other article would be necessary too:

Not sure about the licensing (nor went through all the terms of use and protocol of the other forum).

Try again, Brynn. I'm sure Jabier would run his web scraper over the site - probably he hasn't seen it, or forgot.

Hhmm, somehow I missed Moini's message earlier.  I really think this forum is so small compared to InkscapeForum, that it's not worth the effort to make an archive with it.  Although I would love if he could make one for Inkscape for Cutting Design.  But I already asked him, and didn't get a reply.  So I guess that's a  no.

My break might not be as much of a break as I wanted.  Or maybe it will just be a little longer before I do it.  In fact, I'm glad to hear from you Lazur.

I've been trying to drum up enough interest to start the same sort of "program" or "system" that I have here, for users submitting tutorials for the community, but on the Inkscape website.  Fyi, the interest is little to none.  But that little bit is enough that I'm going to try it.   I know for a fact that users will appreciate it, even if developers aren't interested.  You'll see it first on the Tutorials page of the Inkscape website (in maybe a week or 2, hopefully).  And I'm not sure if there might be a special chatroom for it, or if we would use the Documentation chatroom.  That would be where tutorial authors can ask questions.

So Lazur, if you want to submit some of the tutorials that you have here, for the website, let me know.  I imagine that most of yours will end up being advanced level tutorials (or at least intermediate), and those will be few and far between.  So if you're interested, there will be a place for them.

I'm still working out exactly how the system will work, but I'm going to try it.

Whoa! I was worried yesterday that it already happened.
Time to download the content as soon as possible then.

Thank you for the work put inside! Wish there were more people around to join here at the time.
Nevertheless I hope you can get back on track and not losing all the previous interest.
Wishing you a refresjing break when it comes!

Just so you know, this forum has been closed to new members for a few months now.  There's a new forum open on the Inkscape website.  So you should register over there, if you need help in the future.

There's a big red notification on the index page of this forum.  But I've learned that not everyone can see it.  So I apologize about that.
