This one qualifies more as a work in progress, since I couldn't export it to a png.
The hammer is heavy.

Do you have any recurrent filters in this...? Stopping it now, after 25 minutes...

Recurrent filters?
Wanted to try out the previous glossy metal texture on the hammerhead; added a grunge overlay by probably this pack.
The background is an overlay of a watercolour filter, with two blocky filters below, with another two filters below if I can recall.
One stone filter with an overlay.

The white contour has the grunge paint filter from this pack, and the wood comes from here.

Basically those were used, with blending modes and turbulence parametres adjusted to the image.
Probably the blending mode on the background image as an input is the real resource-killer.
Strange thing is, it renders relatively easily at 100% zoom level on screen, while hardly exports at 96 dpi.
Better stitch screenshots instead...

With all seriousness it needs a more robust renderer. With a rendering cache and a way to divide the process into parts that can be calculated in a reasonable time. With gpu support and whatnot.

Thought there might be some loop... But probably just much too much to render for cairo. Maybe post a bug report? It's weird that it renders well on screen, and then doesn't export at same resolution.

I agree about the graphics card rendering and parallelization, but can't do anything about that...

Revisiting this one, adding in some animation.

Uses the same hure rotate based animation as the crane one, almost everything is identical in the setup for that matter.
That being said, the base of the animation is the huerotate filter primitive over a spectrum gradient.
However it theoretically should look fluent, the hue rotate itself isn't -as can be seen in the knot. There had to tweak the lightness with blending to be even, yet the saturation got messed up.
Then, a component transfer was used to extract the red channel so it would occure moving. Converted the luminance to alpha and used that as a source for the displacement map.
Problems are the following:
using the image filter primitive -better be avoided, for copy/pasting;
the hue rotate produces messed up results in action,
and the red channel doesn't map the whole spectrum range -which was the reason behind using it.
So probably, will have to look into animating gradient instead.
More so, that's how it was done in the golden age of cg and it should render fluently.

Thought there might be some loop
A loop would result in an instant crash as with the image filter primitive I guess.
All the blending and background image inputs could have been eliminated if there was a way to stitch two filters together, preferably with an option to label the subchains.

Newest one was about to be a grass filter, similar to this vein.

Got waay too complex and out of hand.
Either a decent filter editor is necessary for this kind of stuff or breaking down the chain to the smallest possible sections.
For example it takes a minute in the grass filter to move a new filter primitive from the bottom to the top by drag&drop.
There are 173 primitives in the chain. There is no way of tracking whatsoever.

Anyway, here is this mess -with grass leafs generated:

Also attaching an export with 0.92 for comparing with ocal's export with 0.91.

A remix of a flat clipart using mostly the same filters as with that maple leaf:

Note, that the full size thumbnail rendering got stuck at ocal and it should have slightly more detail through inkscape 0.92.

-original unfiltered image can be found here.

Edit: added another background with a "simplified" filter (which should render "easily"):

An organic pack:

and a variant of it:

-turns out the embedded image (thumbnail from ocal) is slightly off... again, use inkscape 0.92 for the correct rendering of the svg.

Reusing that fabric pack in this image's background:

Didn't use cloning for the dropshadow so cannot adjust them further. Other than that, the object overlap so there shouldn'r be any "rendering gap" issue crossing a thread.

And I'm running low on motivation and interest.

"I’m dreaming of coloured inks"

svg source for a larger variety of shades

Also as an update to that houndstooth pattern, reworked it from the basics with an improved structure.

For what end? Almost reached the limits of this whole topic. Pushing it too hard into nowhrere with no apparent reason. No wonder I'm looking back even to the very first filters packed. OK, so now I can remake them much better. What next?

Edit: openclipart could render the thumbnails of the pack up to this point:

Teach others, perhaps, Lazur? If you're still at university, there might be students who would like to learn about SVG filtering from an expert.

"For what end"??  Are you kidding?  I think it's only because your work is not widely known, that it's not being used so much, or referenced so much.  It's going to be a gold mine for anyone looking to learn about filters.  And a gold mine for people looking to use filters.

I wonder if the slow loading pages in both forums are preventing a lot of people from seeing them?  I'm actually not sure why they load slowly - size, quantity, being links???  Could OCA be the slow link in the chain?  Not sure.

Maybe posting somewhere like google + (https://plus.google.com/+inkscape)?  I sure found a lot of stuff on Pinterest the other day - looks like kind of a raquet for image hosting there....might be good way to spread the word?  Or upload a link to Inkscape gallery, to the filter collection, if not already done?  (I'll check)

Decided to search "lazur inkscape filter" - caught this:  https://www.teepublic.com/kids-t-shirt/1407155-limited-edition-exclusive-all-092-filters  Somehow I never made the connection between Inkscape filters and kids' tshirts!  Not sure if there's much you can do about that.  But I'd be p-o'd, if it were my image.  (That was my problem with Pinterest the other day - someone stole from our site.)

But having said all that, you're the only one who knows when it's time to move on.  Maybe it's time to focus more on your artwork?  It seems there would be no limits to iterative designs?  Or else, I have a dream about Inkscape University, which is too big to do by myself.  Just a thought  :-D

An egosearch can lead to interesting results.

Some examlpes:
involute of a circle at wikipedia commons
unrelated blogpost illustration
iot article
pdf from Potsdam University
another blogpost
blogpost
lion tamer

Remembered this one was used somewhere as an album cover but cannot find it.

Other results are mirroring openclipart straight. Could find more with such mug/shirt selling sites.

No filters used though besides a very few.

Openclipart is kind of slow, there are periods when the loading times out. By uploading images there these works become public domain -indicating you can sell any copy of it (if you can find someone willing to pay...). Like a recording of Mozart's work.
It prevents only one thing: claiming others being the original author/others claiming copyright for the material.

Not concerned by this. Frankly only a very few works of mine are there a bit of personal related.
Most of those are resource files, remixes, tutorials, helping materials etc.
Top downloads say it all:
silversilkwave in a response to this topic,
brushed metal texture as far as I remember was a quick response at irc
school works -a lame remix of a lamer clipart for a thumbnail of a collection of horrible first tryouts-
firework traced, for the challenge
trophy for another oldie
a ten minute scribble for a thumbnail of ocal challenges
islamic pattern of this article
and finally spectrum of colours, offspring of this topic.

Testing out the hatching template -it generates 30000+ nodes, up to even 170000 so copy/pasting is not really a working option... though noone seemed to be bothered about that.
Off-Topic: show
Goldmine you say?   :-|

As a result removed any unnecessary parts after the trace bitmap of the original template -removed unwanted layers, filter and resized the page in an earlier step- and saved a copy with each tracing shown below.

Some of these tracing examples:

The better ones couldn't get a thumbnail generated by ocal so just sharing the links:

street scene
gondola
forest
lamp
lock
pigeons

Not literally a gold mine, of course.  And not for you.

But do you really see no value for all your amazing efforts?  It must have had some value to you, at the time, or else you never would have done it.

Those are fabulous!

I'm curious about the last step, which refers to "CNC ready halftone silhouette".  Would someone really want to mill out a halftone effect?  It would seem to be hardware intensive.  Or does the cnc derive something from it?

It is a diamond in the mud that noone is picking up. Maybe I jump too soon to conclusions but in fact til this day noone was curious enough trying it out in action.

Cnc-ready as it's a way to represent a photograph with vector halftones only. There is not much alternatives. Thought it'd be essential for cnc. Either that or for unprofessional screen printing.
With a displacement map filter primitive it can be turned to a "feathered" pointillistic filter, but it really melts even at the trace bitmap part -speaking of hardware intensive.

Thought it'd be essential for cnc.

Do you mean there's some kind of CNC used for printing?  Or are you thinking that a CNC machine could scan this image, somehow, to create it's own cutting paths?  I don't mean to sound like I'm challenging you or contradicting you.  I just want to learn and understand.

@Brynn: He means it's the most convenient way to laser-burn (or otherwise plot,cut,etch,...) a photo into an object, simulating different shades of gray by line thickness. The file that the laser (or other machine) would use would be the svg turned to gcode or any other cnc-machine-readable format.
